Bruno Guimaraes has addressed Newcastle United supporters on the back of yesterday’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford.

Bruno Guimaraes has urged supporters to “stick” with Newcastle United following yesterday’s horror show in West London.

The Magpies were battered 3-1 by Brentford - blowing a lead in the capital for the second successive Sunday. For all of Newcastle’s merits in cup competition, they risk falling desperately behind the Premier League pack.

Eddie Howe’s men sit two points above the relegation zone after 11 games. Newcastle are six points behind the top six, a nod to how tight the top flight has been this season.

Eddie Howe message to Newcastle United supporters

However, further setbacks will give the Magpies a mountain to climb on their quest for European qualification. Howe sent a message to those supporters who feel as though their league campaign is slipping away.

When asked to give a message to the Toon supporters, Howe said: “My message is that we know it's not good enough and I take full responsibility for that. And the work to put that right starts now. That's all I can do in this moment.”

Bruno Guimaraes addresses Newcastle United fans

Newcastle captain Guimaraes has now taken to social media to address the fans. He wrote on Instagram: “In almost four years at this club, we’re going through perhaps one of the toughest moments. Just like in life, we can’t always be at the top. But something football has taught me over all these years is that in times like this, we need to stick together and never let go of each other’s hands.

“The first part of the season didn’t go as expected, and now, after this break, we need to find the chemistry that has guided us all this time until now. I can assure you that we are just as sad as you, the fans.”

‘Lacking in confidence’ - Eddie Howe

On the Brentford performance, Howe added: “It was clear, for me, if you watch Newcastle regularly, we were lacking in confidence today. There were a lot of technical mistakes, which is really unlike us, especially in the middle of the pitch where we're usually really fluent.

“That contributed then to putting us under pressure. So I think a different feeling to West Ham, different emotions. It's really important today that I support the players and we know we're good players. We know we've got a really good team, but we just need to stay grouped together in this difficult period.”
