Carlos Corberan says if he will leave Valencia amid pressure on Daniel Farke at Leeds United

Former Leeds United assistant coach Carlos Corberan has addressed his future at Valencia as the pressure grows on Daniel Farke at Elland Road.

Carlos Corberan was part of the coaching team at Leeds under influential head coach Marcelo Bielsa before embarking on his own coaching career.

Now head coach at Valencia, Corberan was linked with the Leeds job during their last spell in the top-flight, as one of the leading candidates to replace Jesse Marsch.

Corberan is in the running for the Middlesbrough job; however, with the pressure growing on Daniel Farke, it seems inevitable that he will be one of the names in the frame to replace the German should he leave the Premier League strugglers.

Now, as he looks to end a poor start to the season with Valencia, Corberan has addressed his future at the Mestalla.

Valencia secured a battling draw against Real Betis to climb out of the La Liga relegation zone and end a sequence of four defeats in five games.

Corberan has been under pressure due to his team’s underperformance, caused in part by a long injury list, which includes on-loan winger Largie Ramazani.

However, speaking to Diario AS after the game, Corberan reaffirmed his commitment to Los Ches as he looks to get their season back on track.

Corberan said: “My commitment to Valencia and to turning this situation around is the strongest possible.

“This group is going to give their all to change the team’s situation because nobody wants to be where we are.”

He added: “The dressing room is completely united. We’re surprised that anyone is questioning that unity. I couldn’t be happier with my players. I feel the same support from the club as I did from the first day I arrived.”

What did Marcelo Bielsa say about Carlos Corberan?

Corberan spent three years with Leeds, having joined the club in 2017 before eventually leaving to become Huddersfield Town manager in 2020.

Having initially been brought in to work with Leeds’ under-23s side, Corberan split his duties with the first-team from 2018 onwards, working closely with Bielsa.

Bielsa was full of praise for Corberan during his time at Elland Road, as the two men worked closely together for several years.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post in 2018, Bielsa said: “Carlos is a good colleague, I have found that,” before adding. “He is very talented. I listen more to his opinion than I give mine to him.”

Whether he has done enough at Valencia to convince Leeds that he is a potential candidate to replace Farke in the future remains to be seen.
