Deion Sanders Receives NFL Support as Colorado Struggles Fuel Firing Talk

This week, an X page highlighted some of Colorado’s struggles under Sanders, including a 16-19 record, one winning season, 0-1 in bowl games, 2-8 versus ranked opponents, and never being ranked higher than No. 16 in the AP Poll.

The post also ignited discussion about a potential firing of Coach Prime, and Emmanuel Acho retweeted the post with a strong defense of Sanders.

“This is dumb. Colorado has had 1 coach in 20 years who has produced a 3 year stretch better than Deion Sanders. Do the Buffaloes need to improve, absolutely. But to fire (arguably) the best coach the program has had in 20 years is ludicrous,” Acho tweeted.

Colorado is now ineligible for a bowl game, a decline from their 9-4 season in 2024. However, sports insider John Talty said Colorado has no chances of letting Coach Prime go.

“I think that in terms of losing his job, it is cool,”Talty said on CBS Sports’ college football show. “He might step away is scorching hot because there is going to continue to be questions about his well-publicized health issues amidst them not succeeding. There is a lot of industry speculation, like does he want to step away (and take a leave of absence, for all these different things.

“I don’t think Colorado has any interest right now in letting Deion go. He has been great for them from a financial standpoint. He’s led to a lot of interest. We saw him have success a year ago. Like, I don’t think he’s in danger of being fired in any way.”

Even Colorado athletic director Rick George publicly backed Sanders on Friday, stating he supports Coach Prime 100%.

Deion Sanders Gets Emotional Reflecting On Noel Devine After Colorado’s Loss

After Colorado’s loss to West Virginia, Deion Sanders took a moment to reflect on Noel Devine, who now serves as an assistant running backs coach for West Virginia. Sanders has known Devine since he was a child and played a key role in his early development.

“He brought tears to my eyes. I love him like a son,” Sanderssaid. “I’m so proud of him for where he is now from once he came. I knew him as a kid and now I know him as a father and a darn good father and a darn good coach. That shows that you can’t write a kid off, man. You got to love them, give them time, give them respect.”

Despite the emotional reunion, the game ended in a 29-22 loss for Colorado. The defeat dropped the Buffaloes to a 3-7 record and officially eliminated them from bowl contention. Sanders expressed his frustration after the game.

“This is not who we are. We’re better than this, and they deserve better than this,” hesaid. “I want better than this. I feel like I coach better than this. I feel like we got players that are so much better than what the production is that we’re putting out.”

The loss marks Sanders’ second losing season in three years as Colorado’s head coach. The Buffaloes will close out the season with matchups against Arizona State and Kansas State.
