Setback for Amorim: Man United star Benjamin Sesko pulls out of international duty with knee…

Manchester United star Benjamin Sesko has withdrawn from the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kosovo and Sweden.

Sesko suffered an unfortunate knee injury in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

According to The Athletic, the striker will remain at Carrington where he will continue to be assessed by the United medical staff.

The initial scans suggest that Sesko has not suffered a major injury but the extent of the problem will be clear only after further tests are conducted.

His absence comes as a major setback for Slovenia, who currently sit third in their qualifying group and are battling fiercely for a World Cup berth.

They must win both of their remaining fixtures to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Sesko moved to United from RB Leipzig in a deal worth an initial £66.4 million this summer.

The young forward has scored two goals and provided one assist in 11 Premier League appearances, gradually adapting to the intensity of English football.

He has impressed with his hold-up play and ability to link up with his teammates.

Amorim will be hoping to have his main striker fit by mid-December, especially with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo set to miss nearly a month of action while representing their nations at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Sesko’s injury will open the doors for Joshua Zirkzee, who has played only 82 minutes of football in the league this term.

Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount could also be deployed as makeshift number nines, given Amorim’s tactical preference for a fluid and interchanging attack.
