All the reaction from Brighton’s 0-0 Premier League draw at old rivals Crystal Palace

Should Brighton star Georginio receive a retrospective ban after his blatant dive against Crystal Palace? - former Premier League referee Keith Hackett thinks so.

Georginio was booked for simulation inside the Palace box on 62 minutes.

Sussex referee Tim Robinson initially awarded a penalty before rescinding after a VAR check and sanctioning the £40m Albion man.

It was a clear dive from the former Leeds United man and one that has drawn criticism from ex-players and referees, pundits and even his own fanbase.

Hackett said VAR was correct but went a step further and feels there should be a review panel with the power to issue retrospective bans for these types of incidents

"I do compliment the VAR," said Hackett speaking to Football Insider. "It was an accurate decision, one that I applaud.

Hackett added: “The only way you’re going to resolve the simulation is with a one-match ban.

"I would like to see a review panel take a retrospective approach to punish.

“If they continue to get away with it, they’re going to do it. We’re at a point where the slightest contact, instead of the player going on and taking a shot at goal, will go to ground and want a penalty kick.

“There is no incentive not to do it. A yellow card is insufficient. There’s almost an incentive to go to ground."

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler was asked to comment on Georginio's dive after the match but the German claimed he had not seen the footage back.

“In the first half there were lots of little fouls like that,” he said. “I can’t comment because I haven’t seen it. In the end, VAR made the decision to give the penalty back."

Palace boss Oliver Glasner was less diplomatic in his answer. "It was a clear dive," said the Austrian.

Wayne Rooney: VAR got the decision spot-on

Former England striker Wayne Rooney, speaking on Match of the Day, said: "He said: “The officials get this spot on.

“Refs can make a mistake on the pitch. In real time I thought it was a penalty.

“We can see here, Rutter, he has players around him and he has thrown himself to the ground trying to win a penalty.

“Rightly so, VAR have come in and got the right decision in the end.

“This was a very good use of VAR.”
