The Dallas Mavericks had a brief period of optimism after surprisingly earning the number one pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and eventually selecting Duke star Cooper Flagg, but months after the draft there are the same concerns about the franchise and a specific member of the front office.

General manager Nico Harrison was at the center of harsh conversations last season after the Mavericks executive traded away superstar shooter Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, and as the Slovenia star continues to light it up with his new team Dallas has struggled mightily to start the 2025-26 season.
NBA insider Tim MacMahon reported Monday that the Mavericks will likely be firing Harrison in the near future and called the situation “a matter of when, not if.”
Since the Doncic trade this past NBA season, Dallas fans have been vocal about the franchise moving on from Harrison and it led to a strong campaign of “Fire Nico” chants at many Mavericks home games. This season, the Mavs have started 3-7, which marks the second-worst record in the Western Conference.

While the Mavericks do have a number of quality pieces to be excited about alongside Flagg, including Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson, a new general manager would certainly give Dallas fans a temporary moment of optimism.
