The Albion head coach said he was surprised to hear there had been doubts from some fans about his No.1.
Verbruggen, 23, made two fine saves in the 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace and produced an all-round assured performance with hands and feet.
Albion had not kept a clean sheet until the recent win over Leeds and some supporters had been doubting Verbruggen.
But Hurzeler told The Argus: “That surprises me because I think he is a very good goalkeeper.
“Don't under-estimate how young he still is.
“He's still like in the developing phase.
“So, therefore, he proved that another time today, that he can be a very good goalkeeper.
“That's why we are very pleased to have him, and we have to keep helping him, keep pushing him.
“But today he made two good safes and very pleased with this.”
Holland, who lead their group by three points, face a crucial World Cup qualifier away to Poland.
Awin would see Verbruggen, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mats Wieffer and company book their tickets to the finals.
Failing that, it will come down to a home game with Lithuania in Amsterdam next Monday before the focus returns to the Premier League.
