The Eagles made a splash ahead of last week’s NFL trade deadline. They added three new players, including former Packers star and All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander.
But Alexander won’t be making his Eagles debut against his former team.
Alexander has been ruled out for Monday night’s game against the Packers at Lambeau Field. The Eagles cited “knee/coach’s decision” as the reason for his absence in a press release.
Alexander did not travel with the team to Green Bay.
“The team believes he still is acclimating to the defensive system, still recovering from a knee injury, and decided it was best for him to stay back to focus on his recovery and preparations for the remainder of the season,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
Alexander, 28, was acquired by the Eagles on Nov. 1. Philadelphia sent a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Ravens for Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick.
Alexander, a 2018 first-round pick by the Packers, was a second-team All-Pro selection in 2020 and 2022. Injuries cut his 2023 and 2024 seasons short, leading to his release. Alexander joined the Ravens this offseason but was a healthy scratch in five of seven games.
Without Alexander, the Eagles will at least have the following CBs vs. Green Bay: Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Adoree’ Jackson, Kelee Ringo and Jets acquisition Michael Carter II.
Jakorian Bennett could also play. He was listed as questionable on Saturday’s post-practice injury report. Bennett has his practice window opened after coming off injured reserve.
