The NFL season has passed the midpoint. So the sample size is big enough for people to make some predictions and draw some conclusions.

With that in mind, analyst Dan Orlovsky named three MVP candidates.

The former NFL QB believes it should be a three-man race between Drake Maye, Matthew Stafford and Jonathan Taylor.

For starters, defensive players don’t get any type of consideration in MVP voting. That rules out several stars who could get some notice, but they will have to settle for the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Maye has looked like the New England Patriots’ savior this season. The second-year QB is clearly way ahead of schedule, and more than his play, he is also a leader.

Stafford is playing perhaps the most efficient football of his long career. The Los Angeles Rams quarterback is comfortable facing all types of coverages, as he’s seen and done it all at this point.

Last but not least, Taylor arguably has been the best offensive weapon in the league this season for the Indianapolis Colts. Unfortunately, running backs don’t get as much attention as quarterbacks when it comes to the MVP award, but as great as Maye and Stafford have been, Taylor may be even better.

The race should go down to the wire, and it’s possible other contenders can emerge before the winner is crowned.
