Aston Villa secured an eye-catching win over AFC Bournemouth in their latest Premier League outing over the weekend

Aston Villa won 4-0 at home to AFC Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League. Emi Buendia, Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley and Donyell Malen got their goals against the Cherries as they secured an eye-catching three points. They also managed to keep a clean sheet which was a big boost.

Unai Emery’s side are sat in 6th place in the table after their first 11 fixtures. They are only outside the top four by a point as they head into the international break. Next up is an away trip to Leeds United on Sunday 23rd November as they look to keep their momentum going.

Aston Villa trio hailed by Troy Deeney

Aston Villa trio Emi Martinez, Onana and Buendia all made it into Troy Deeney’s Team of the Week after their performances over the weekend. Onana and Buendia both managed to get on the score sheet against Bournemouth. Meanwhile, Martinez kept the Cherries at bay.

Regarding the goalkeeper’s display, ex-Birmingham City man Deeney said, as per a report by BBC Sport: “Everyone will talk about that penalty save in the win against Bournemouth, but for me the biggest save was when he had a massive deflection from Alex Scott - it goes up and looks like it's looping in. It's better than the David Raya save everyone talked about last year at Villa Park. Coming off a week when it emerged he no longer has any leadership role at Aston Villa, I thought he conducted himself really well.”

On Onana, he said: “A massive 4-0 performance from Aston Villa against a very good Bournemouth side and he was at the heart of it. Breaking things up, gliding through the midfield with those big powerful legs. Gets himself on the score sheet as well.”

Meanwhile, Deeney was also full of praise for Buendia: “Someone coming back from a long-term injury, starting to find his feet. We thought he might be on his way out but he seems to be getting better for Villa, another goal and a wonderful free-kick. He is developing into a top-class player and a really important one for Villa.”

What now for Aston Villa?

Villa will fancy their chances of another victory when they take to the field in a couple of weeks again against Leeds. Their upcoming opponents were promoted from the Championship earlier this year along with Burnley and Sunderland. The Whites have seen their form slump recently though and are nervously looking over their shoulder towards the drop zone after being beaten 3-1 away at Nottingham Forest last time out.

Emery is managing to get the best out of players like Martinez, Onana and Buendia right now. The latter has enjoyed a new lease of life this term after previously falling out of favour. He was loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen last term after being deemed surplus to requirements but has since returned to Villa Park and established himself back in the first-team.
