This season hasn’t been easy for the Boston Celtics. Not only did they lose a bunch of talent over the summer, but they’ve also faced a grueling schedule to begin the year with 11 games in 19 days — most in the Eastern Conference. Despite the adversity, the Celtics have continued to battle, grinding out a 5-6. They showed plenty of tenacity and resilience on Sunday, bouncing back from a tough road loss against the Orlando Magic on Friday to win Sunday’s rematch against the Magic 111-107. Boston seemed headed for another loss after falling behind 21-9 in the first quarter. However, the Celtics rallied thanks to a historic scoring binge by Anfernee Simons, who poured in 23 points during an eight-minute stretch, including 17 straight for Boston at one point. Simons wasn’t the only bench player who stepped up for the Celtics, who had 50 bench points compared to Orlando’s 18. Luka Garza contributed 16 points and eight rebounds, while Hugo Gonzalez and Jordan Walsh combined for three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help put the game away. After the game, Jaylen Brown praised his new teammates for stepping up in crunch time against a tough opponent on the road. All great signs.” The Celtics will try to build on that performance during Tuesday’s road game against the Philadelphia 76ers, who have already split a pair of one-point games with them this year. If that turns out to be another tight one, Boston’s improving role players could be the difference. Story continues below advertisement
