The Boston Celtics have gotten off to a 5-6 start so far in the 2025-26 campaign, and to this point, they have largely been what fans expected them to be. Some nights, the C’s look great, and others, the big holes across their roster show up in brutal fashion. While the team won’t admit as much, this season is a reset of sorts for the C’s as they wait to get Jayson Tatum back on the court. As a result, the front office could be aggressive when it comes to making moves in an effort to free up more cap space and acquire young players with high ceilings. One guy who already could be on the trade block is Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant. While Boston likely won’t acquire him, it could still factor into a potential trade here. In a hypothetical trade outlined by NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the C’s land DeMar DeRozan from the Sacramento Kings as part of a huge deal involving Morant. Memphis Grizzlies receive: G Anfernee Simons, G Malik Monk, F Jordan Walsh, SAS 2027 1st-round pick (if 1-16, via SAC, else two 2027 2nd-round picks), SAC 2029 1st-round pick (top-3 protected), ORL/DET/MIL 2026 2nd-round pick (most favorable from BOS → MEM) Boston Celtics receive: F DeMar DeRozan, G Devin Carter, SAC 2026 2nd-round pick Story continues below advertisement Sacramento Kings receive: G Ja Morant, G Baylor Scheierman For the Celtics, this trade would see them land DeRozan, Devin Carter and a 2026 second-round pick in exchange for Anfernee Simons, Jordan Walsh, Baylor Scheierman and a 2026 second-round pick. Not only does the team unload Simons on his expiring deal, but they get DeRozan, who is on a team-friendly contract, and a talented young guard in Carter. DeRozan is in his age-36 season, but he’s still producing at a high level, averaging 20.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 50% from the field. He could fill the veteran role that was left vacant by the departures of Al Horford and Jrue Holiday over the offseason. Story continues below advertisement Whether or not there would be interest in this sort of trade from Boston’s perspective remains to be seen. However, even though the front office was busy over the offseason, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more moves get made as the season unfolds.
