David De Gea is no stranger to European away days with Manchester United, but in 2015, it was his wife Edurne De Gea's turn to take the European stage.
Edurne represented Spain in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest amidst swirling rumours of De Gea's potential transfer to Real Madrid. However, her song 'Amanecer' didn't quite hit the high notes she'd hoped for.
The Spanish singer ended up in a disappointing 21st place out of 25 countries, scoring a mere 15 points. To add salt to her wounds, none of those points came from the UK.
De Gea, who celebrated his 35th birthday last week, took to Twitter to vent his frustration after his then-girlfriend found herself languishing near the bottom of the leaderboard.
The goalkeeper tweeted: "You are my number 1 above any votes."

He continued to express his discontent about the voting system, stating: "And I thought that at Eurovision music was more important than nationality."
Eurovision voting is notorious for its political undertones, and De Gea didn't hold back in criticising the so-called 'voting blocs'.
Despite all the speculation and a notorious fax machine incident, De Gea remained at United that summer and eventually tied the knot with Edurne.

The Spanish songstress is now a judge om The Voice Kids - and will have to split her time between her native Spain and Italy.
De Gea, who left the Red Devils in 2023, is now rebuilding his career in the home of the Italian Renaissance.
And after a shaky start at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, the Tuscan city full of medieval romance has fallen in love with its new modern hero.
