Norwich City parted ways with head coach Liam Manning following a seventh consecutive home defeat, leaving the club second from bottom in the Championship over the weekend.
Manning was appointed in June after guiding Bristol City to the play-offs last season, but lasted just 17 games in charge at Carrow Road.
The 40-year-old’s final match was Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Leicester City.
Norwich have now gone 11 games without a win and have suffered eight consecutive home defeats in league and cup competitions.
“We have tried absolutely everything possible to work through this incredibly challenging period but, unfortunately, given the recent run of results and performances, we have been left with no choice other than to make a change at this stage,” said sporting director Ben Knapper.
“Liam and his staff worked tirelessly to move our football club forward. They are all fundamentally good people and we wish them the very best in whatever comes next.”
According to Sky Sports, Russell Martin and former Liverpool coach Gary O’Neil are among several candidates Norwich City are considering as they search for a new head coach.
The online news portal claims that “the club are keen to open talks with former Norwich icons, Martin and O’Neil, to gauge their appetite for the job.”
“Norwich are hoping to appoint their new head coach before the end of the international break but would be willing to wait for the right boss.”
“Sporting director Ben Knapper is leading the search and will be drawing up a shortlist of candidates in the coming days.”
Martin was shown the exit door by Rangers last month, while O’Neil has been without a club since December last year, when he left Wolves.
O’Neil withdrew from the process of becoming Wolves’ new head coach after holding discussions with the club.
He held positive talks but ultimately decided the role wasn’t the right fit for him at this time.
