FOXBOROUGH - The Patriots situation at running back is a major concern ahead of Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets.
Rhamondre Stevenson has missed the last two games with a toe injury, while Terrell Jennings left Sunday’s win over Tampa Bay with a left knee injury.
While Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said those players were being “evaluated” in terms of their status for the game, Jennings was present in the locker room on Monday.
Before heading to treatment, he provided a bit of an update.
“I’ll definitely be okay,” he said. “It’s just a little bruise.”
Jennings, who was only in for four carries, said he took a knee to his left quad, and it caused his knee to swell up.
“It was bad enough that I couldn’t get any extension on it,” Jennings said. “I was bummed. I wanted to be out there with my brothers.”
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson picked up the slack, rushing for 147 yards on 14 carries, with two explosive touchdown runs of 55 and 69 yards.
Jennings wasn’t sure if he’d be ready to go Thursday night, but that was his hope.
“I’m just going to take it on a day-by-day basis trying to get right,” he said.
Stevenson could return, although Vrabel was mum on that possibility.
Along with Henderson, D’Ernest Johnson, who was elevated for the Buccaneers game, is on the practice squad.
