Basketball Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins became known for his thunderous dunks during his playing days, earning the nickname “The Human Highlight Film.” Now his son, Jake Wilkins, is starting to do the same.
A freshman for Georgia, Jake has thrown down several impressive dunks through his first three games with the Bulldogs, including Sunday when his alley-oop windmill dunk was declared by ESPN as an early Dunk of the Year candidate.
You can check out the dunk below:
Through three games, the former Grayson (Ga.) High School star is averaging more than 14 points per game while playing only 17.2 minutes per game. He ranks third on the team in scoring and is also pulling down 4 rebounds per game.
Jake Wilkins is following in his father Dominque’s footsteps as Dominique also played at Georgia before going on to have an incredible NBA career.
Dominique earned NBA All-Star honors nine times, won the NBA Slam Dunk contest twice and led the league in scoring in 1986. His No. 21 jersey has been retired by the Atlanta Hawks.
It is way too early to know if Jake Wilkins will go on to be an NBA star or even play in the NBA, but there’s no doubt that he has impressive athleticism.
