Report: Andy Robertson moves closer to significant contract decision

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson’s current contract is due to expire in 2026.

The Scotland international has been at Anfield since 2017 - winning the Premier League twice, the Champions League and several other major honours throughout his time at the club.

Robbo will go down as one of the club’s greatest transfers - signed for around £8m from Hull City following their relegation. But time is catching up on the defender.

Robertson accepts Celtic move

At 31, and with Kerkez for company, Liverpool could be committing a lot of money on a reserve player who won’t play much. The other option would be for Robertson to see out his deal and leave on a free transfer.

It’s been speculated that he is target for Celtic in Scotland - the club he is reported to have supported as a boy. And now a report in Fichajes claims that Robertson’s decision has been made.

A pre-contract agreement with the Bhoys is close and could even be announced as soon as January.

“The deal is almost finalized as a free transfer this summer, with a pre-contract possible as early as January,” the report reads.

We will take these reports with a pinch of salt for now - but it is true that there are no guarantees over the player’s future. It’s very much up in the air with Hughes declining to hold talks about a new deal up to now.
