Liverpool may have spent £450m in the summer, but there’s still regret over a missed opportunity.
The Reds had a £35m deal for Marc Guehi lined up on deadline day, but Crystal Palace blocked the move.
Guehi was set for a medical in London on September 1, but Palace’s replacement plans fell through when Brighton’s Igor Julio chose a loan to West Ham instead.
The Premier League champions are now expected to pursue Guehi next summer when he could be available on a free transfer.
Another Palace player, Adam Wharton, has also been linked with Liverpool.
The January 2024 signing from Blackburn Rovers has been impressive so far this season. He has racked up 15 appearances and provided one assist in all competitions for the Eagles.
DaveOCKOP exclusively revealed that Wharton favours a move to Liverpool over other interested clubs.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest update on the future of Wharton.
Romano has confirmed that Crystal Palace have held talks with Wharton’s representatives regarding a potential new contract.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder still has four years remaining on his Palace contract, which runs until 2029.
“They want to extend this contract. So Palace are on it,” Romano said.
“They’ve spoken already to his representative several times about this intention they have to give him a new contract.
“At the same time, let’s see what’s going to happen there, because the boy has been super professional already last summer, when he already had some kind of opportunity if he wanted to go.
“But for Palace, he was untouchable. Also, in the recent months, we had many rumours, and the boy, again, is behaving in a fantastic way.
“So Palace are super happy with Adam, and Adam is quite happy with Palace. He understands that he’s probably at the best club to develop in this moment for him.
“But then in the summer, you never know, in case there is a big opportunity, a big financial proposal, we have to see what happens.
“So at the moment, there is this intention from Palace to give him a new contract, but we are not yet at the stage where we say, okay, it’s guaranteed, because it’s still early stages of the conversation.”
