Eagles defender who dominated the Packers returning from injury

The Eagles are getting a key defensive player back for Monday’s game against the Packers — 10 months after he dominated Green Bay in the postseason.

Edge rusher Nolan Smith has been activated to the 53-man roster and will play in the Eagles’ “Monday Night Football” matchup against Green Bay at Lambeau Field.

Edge rusher Patrick Johnson was also elevated from the practice squad.

Smith was placed on injured reserve after suffering a triceps injury in a 33-26 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 21. The third-year edge rusher missed the last five games.

Smith’s active status for Monday’s game doesn’t come as a surprise. Smith was listed as “questionable” for the game but a full participant on Saturday’s practice report.

Smith returns to a reconfigured edge rusher group. In the last few weeks, Za’Darius Smith retired, Brandon Graham unretired, and the Eagles traded for Dolphins star Jaelan Phillips.

Smith had a breakout game in last season’s NFC Wild Card win over the Packers, recording eight tackles and two sacks in the Eagles’ 22-10 victory.

Smith, along with Phillips, Graham, Jalyx Hunt, Joshua Uche and Johnson, will be hoping to get after Jordan Love and the Packers’ offensive line during the primetime ESPN tilt.

The Eagles (6-2) and Packers (5-2-1) will kick off at 8:15 p.m. ET.
