Rapper attends Jets game hours after release from prison

Hours after his release from prison Sunday, an influential rapper was on the sideline at MetLife Stadium for the Jets-Cleveland Browns game, ending a decade-plus sentence for aggravated manslaughter.

In the video posted by the account ‘Wave Checkers’ on X (formerly known as Twitter), Max B was seen entering MetLife Stadium and on the sideline before the game, where he met Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders. He was able to watch the Jets defeat the Browns 27-20.

The Bronx rapper also commented on the team’s recent trade that sent cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and wide receiver Adoni Mitchell.

“We should have kept Sauce,” Max B said.

Max B built a significant following in hip-hop before his incarceration. The rapper’s mixtapes were lauded for the beats he used and the lyrics. His songs also featured several famous rappers, ranging from Cam’ron, Funkmaster Flex and Jim Jones, to Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa and French Montana.

However, Max B, whose real name is Charly Wingate, was accused of hatching a plan to rob David Taylor Jr. at a Fort Lee hotel in 2006. Though Wingate did not go to the hotel, the robbery ended with Taylor being shot and killed. In 2009, he was convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery, and felony murder and sentenced to 75 years.

He appealed, and his charges were vacated. In 2016, he pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and received a 20-year sentence. The plea deal made him eligible to be released Sunday.
