It took one game to prove Jaguars hit it out of the ballpark with Jakobi Meyers

The Jacksonville Jaguars have some serious soul-searching to do after the 36-29 meltdown to the Houston Texans in Week 10: Penalties remain an issue, and he offense couldn't find a rhythm throughout the game.

On top of that, the defense couldn't contain the almighty Davis Mills when it mattered the most. But as discouraging as the loss was, not everything was doom and gloom. In particular, the newly acquired Jakobi Meyers was a bright spot in what otherwise was a disappointing performance across the board.

In spite of having just a few days to prepare for the game, Meyers hauled in three receptions for 41 yards on 23 offensive snaps. He also had a touchdown, but it was called back due to a penalty. But even after the score was wiped out, the Jags should most definitely be intrigued with the seventh-year veteran and what kind of impact he can have moving forward.

The Jaguars need give Jakobi Meyers a bigger role moving forward

The Jaguars knew that Jakobi Meyers wasn't going to have a full-time role against the Texans, given how little time he had to soak up the playbook. That makes his success in limited playing time the more impressive. Head coach Liam Coen, for his part, was pleased with his production, noting that the former North Carolina State product did a good job of learning the system.

"Yeah, he did a good job this week, you know, preparing himself to learn the system as quick as he can learn the game plan and go make plays for us," Lawrence said after the loss to the Texans. "He made a couple big ones today, and one early was taken off due to a penalty, but I thought he did a great job being ready. Super hard worker, you know, was impressive during the week. And, yeah, I thought he did the nice."

Nice indeed, which makes you wonder how much of a role Meyers will have moving forward. After all, he and Parker Washington made the most of their chances against the Texans, while Dyami Brown was just targeted once and finished the game with no catches.

It's also worth noting that Brian Thomas Jr. sat out the Texans matchup with an ankle sprain, but he should return in the upcoming weeks. Ditto Travis Hunter, who landed on injured reserve with a knee injury. But even when they return, Meyers showed right off the bat that he needs to get expanded playing time.

Think about it, Jakobi Meyers on short notice. Imagine what he can do once he gets fully acclimated with the Jaguars.
