The Buffalo Bills followed up an impressive win over the Kansas City Chiefs, their long-time AFC nemesis, with an almost inexplicable flop against the Miami Dolphins in Week 10, losing 30-13 on the road.
Quarterback Josh Allen did not pull any punches with regards to who was to blame following the defeat, which dropped the Bills to 6-3 on the season and put them 1.5-games back of the AFC East Division-leading New England Patriots.
“I gotta be better. I gotta be better in the protection game and the pass game and the run game, all of it,” Allen said. “Anytime you turn it over three times, two in the red zone — and really you could count that last one driving, kind of going into the red zone — so that's a recipe for disaster.”
Allen finished the day 28 of 40 passing for 306 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He was sacked three times for a total loss of 17 yards. Allen and running back James Cook also each lost a fumble to the Dolphins defense.
And while the three turnovers were key to Buffalo’s defeat, it was also the inability of the Bills defense to stop the run game that broke the team and led to the 17-point loss.
Miami rushed the football 32 times total for 197 yards on the ground. Running back De’Von Achane led the way with 22 carries for 174 yards and scored both of the Dolphins’ rushing touchdowns.
The Bills will return to the field next Sunday in Buffalo for a contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
