Green Bay Mayor, dignitaries announce new initiatives to preserve legacy of Packers legend Jack Vainisi

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Jack Vainisi has been called the architect of the Green Bay Packers for his careful crafting of players and coaches, including Vince Lombardi for the Packers.

He is considered one of the most influential people in Packers’ history.

He worked for the Packers from 1950 until his passing at the age of 33 in 1960.

On Monday at the Legacy Hotel, a group of Vainisi’s supporters gathered to say the fight to get him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame isn’t over.

Mayor Eric Genrich officially named November 27 Jack Vainisi Day.

“Whereas the late Jack Vainisi from the talent pool he propagated for Green Bay laid the foundation for five world championships for teams that revived Green Bay’s reputation as title town with victories in the Ice Bowl and the first two Super Bowls,” Mayor Eric Genrich said.

This November 27 will be the 65th anniversary of Vainisi’s passing.

Vainisi was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 1982.

His team of supporters, which included his daughter and brother, says they’re hoping to get Vainisi inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, in its new “Contributor” category in 2027.
