Wolves have made a poor start to the new Premier League season and are bottom of the table

Wolves sit rock bottom of the Premier League table and are winless in their first 11 fixtures. They have only two points on the board and are eight points from safety behind Burnley in 17th. The Midlands outfit are inside the relegation zone along with West Ham and Nottingham Forest.

They were beaten 3-0 away at Stamford Bridge by Chelsea last time out before the international. Vitor Pereira was sacked recently amid their poor run of form. The Portuguese boss arrived during last season as their replacement for Gary O’Neil and managed to keep them up with relative ease in the end. However, things turned sour for him in the end after a poor start to the current campaign.

Wolves face serious battle to stay in the Premier League

Wolves are struggling to pick up points and are staring down the barrel of relegation to the Championship already, despite there still being 27 matches left to play. They have the opportunity to bring in some more quality to their squad when the January transfer window opens up for business. There is also the chance for them to let some players head out the exit door this winter to free up space and funds to pave the way for reinforcements to arrive.

The likes of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri were sold in the summer to Manchester United and Manchester City respectively. They weren’t replaced adequately which is part of the reason why the team have struggled so far since their exits. Striker Jorgen Strand-Larsen stayed put beyond the last deadline amid attention from Newcastle United but he hasn’t been able to find his shooting boots over recent times.

Confidence will be low and Wolves face an uphill battle to avoid slipping back into the Football League. They were promoted from the second tier back in 2018 under former head coach Nuno Espirito Santo. They have since established themselves as regulars in the top flight but they risk losing their status if they can’t dramatically turn their fortunes around over the coming months.
