According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Florian Wirtz and Rodrygo Goes may soon swap bases if Real Madrid can successfully convince Liverpool to accept an exchange deal. Wirtz is the subject of interest from Los Blancos, with the Spanish giants keen on reinforcing their midfield unit by signing a versatile playmaker.
Meanwhile, with Rodrygo frustrated at Real Madrid due to a lack of game time, a move to the Premier League may appeal to him. However, convincing Liverpool to part ways with Wirtz will be a tall order, even for an appealing exchange deal involving Rodrygo, as the Reds are unwilling to part ways with the summer arrival.
Florian Wirtz and his Liverpool limbo
Florian Wirtz has hit a brick wall since joining Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in a mega-money deal in the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old arrived at Anfield with hype and fanfare surrounding him after taking the Bundesliga by storm in the last half a decade. However, the young playmaker has struggled to make his mark in the first half of the 2025/26 season.
The German international has managed only three assists in 16 outings thus far for Liverpool, and he has yet to contribute to a goal in the Premier League. However, that has not affected Wirtz’s stock in the market, with Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso reportedly pushing for his signature in the long run.
