Liverpool could reportedly sign Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes in a sensational swap deal, as per a recent Spanish report.
The 24-year-old’s future has been a subject of speculation in recent months as he has been struggling to find regular game time at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
The Brazilian was a key player in former manager Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI, but following Kylian Mbappe’s arrival, he lost his importance. Eventually, he found himself on the bench during the later stages of last season.
Following that, he was heavily linked with a move away during the last transfer window. However, a move eventually didn’t come to fruition before the deadline.
This season, his situation hasn’t improved under new manager Xabi Alonso, starting only three games in the Champions League and La Liga combined.
Now, as per a recent Spanish report (via Fichajes), Real Madrid are ready to part ways with the South American, and Alonso wants to sign a new creative midfielder.
Los Blancos are planning to launch a formal proposal to sign Florian Wirtz from Liverpool by offering Rodrygo, who is valued at around £70m by Transfermarkt, in a swap deal.
Rodrygo to Liverpool
Los Blancos want to sign the German following his recent struggles in the Premier League, failing to make any goal contributions in 11 appearances. It seems Alonso is an admirer of his former colleague and believes he would be able to bring the best out of him.
Rodrygo is a dream target for Liverpool to bolster their attacking department. However, they don’t want to part ways with Wirtz just yet, having purchased him last summer by paying a huge fee. So, they are prepared to be patient and give him time to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League.
After letting Luis Diaz leave last summer, Arne Slot didn’t sign a natural left-winger and used Wirtz in this position in the last two matches. However, the German isn’t a natural explosive winger; rather, he likes to play centrally.
Therefore, signing Rodrygo might be the right decision for Liverpool to bolster the left side of the attack. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually decide to accept Real Madrid’s swap deal bid if they receive it.
