**West Ham midfielder **Mohamadou Kanté has been linked with a loan move to the Championship in recent days, but should we let him go?****
Mohamadou Kanté recently signed a new contract with West Ham United to keep him at the club until 2031 after showing just how much potential he has in the opening months of this campaign.
The 20-year-old Frenchman arrived from Paris FC last summer, but was loaned back for the remainder of the season. However, he didn’t manage to break into their team as they gained promotion to Ligue 1.
However, he has has taken a big step up this season so far in West Ham’s U21 squad. So far this season, the French powerhouse has scored four goals and provided two assists in eleven matches in all competitions.
This fine form has led to his new contract, training with the first-team, shouts of making squad, and now is subject to interest from multiple EFL Championship clubs. According to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-multiple-clubs-make-contact-over-signing-west-ham-sensation-mohamadou-kante/), clubs in the second tier have enquired about Kante’s potential availability in the New Year, either on loan or on a permanent basis.
After signing a new contract, Kante leaving on a permanent basis seems impossible, but a loan move could be ideal for both him and the club, but we have to get it right. If he goes on loan and gets no minutes it’ll be a waste of time. He needs to go to a team that are struggling in midfield, so he can come in and make a difference.
To be fair we’ve done pretty well with our loans recently with Freddie Potts, George Earthy and Callum Marshall all making pretty successful short-term moves. Lets hope we keep that up with Kante, and we don’t have another Lewis Orford at Stevenage situation.
However, if we can’t find the right loan move and we end up keeping him he could really be in with a chance of appearing for the first-team, Freddie Potts has come in and pretty much single handedly fixed our midfield, so what’s stopping Kante from coming in and making an impact.
In my opinion, we should loan out Kante, at 20-years-old he’s not played enough men’s football, he’s played well in the EFL trophy with West Ham’s youth side, but he needs to get out there and play against experienced pros more consistently.
If he’s not going to play much at West Ham, and he probably won’t with Fernandes, Paqueta, Potts, Soucek and Magassa at the every least ahead of him in the pecking order, he needs to go out and get some game time and the Championship could be perfect for him.
