Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is expected to withdraw from England's squad after picking up an injury in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

The 25-year-old 'bruised a foot bone' in the dying embers of the Eagles' clash with AZ Alkmaar and hobbled away from Selhurst Park on crutches.

Oliver Glasner ruled him out of Palace's derby against Brighton on Sunday, admitting 'he can't even walk', and now Guehi looks set to pull out of his country's squad for their World Cup Qualifiers against Albania and Serbia.

Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah, previously managed by Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, is in-line to join up with the England squad as Guehi's replacement.

The 26-year-old was handed his first international call-up in May, making his debut in England's friendly 3-1 defeat to Senegal at the City Ground. He was however later omitted Tuchel's squad for September's qualifiers, with the Germain admitting he was 'unfortunate' not to have been called up.

Further late additions to the German's squad for Thursday's game against the Serbians are also expected after Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe revealed Anthony Gordon and Nick Pope will also have to withdraw.

While Gordon was ruled out of the Magpies' trip to Brentford with a hip injury, Pope was forced off during the game in west London after suffering a concussion.

Speaking after his side's 3-1 defeat, Howe said: 'Nick Pope suffered a concussion and that's why we took him off. As soon as were made aware of that, he was withdrawn.

'He won't go with England, it's 12 days recovery, I think. Anthony Gordon has a minor injury, so he'll miss England.'
