Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen has described Harry Amass' progress on loan as "amazing".

Manchester United loaned Amass to Wednesday in the summer. The Owls have been in turmoil due to their ownership situation, but Amass has been given regular minutes in S6.

The youngster has made 11 starts in the Championship and scored his first professional goal against Southampton last weekend, finding the right corner from the edge of the box.

United are delighted with Amass' loan at Hillsborough so far and Wednesday's manager lauded the 18-year-old when he spoke about his progress after his first goal for the club.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Pedersen said of Amass: "The young man who came into Sheffield Wednesday and the young man who just left the stadium today are two different humans.

"And they are two different players. His progression has been amazing and, for a young player like Harry, he came with a lot of energy, but then the Championship always come knocking with three games in a row.

"It is tough, but he keeps on playing. This week, against West Brom, against Norwich, against Southampton, he showed against three good teams that he can compete with them.

"It's not only that he can compete but he can be dominant in some phases. So I think he has done a big development as a player and what I see is a young man who has started to have a big knowledge about himself as a human - who he wants to be, who he doesn't want to be.

"He has started to control when his mood comes down to be more stable. I see a young guy who has started to be physically stronger. He runs more, he has started to sprint more, he has more accelerations and he starts to have smaller breaks in the game. He has started to be better between the phases of the game.

"I like him. He is a good boy, he is a good player and he loves to learn. We love to have him here."

Last week, the Manchester Evening News confirmed that although Amass signed for Wednesday on a season-long loan deal and the agreement is set up for the entire campaign, it technically expires on January 5.

This means Wednesday must request to extend the loan if they wish to keep him for the season. If they do so, United will then choose whether to accept or reject the request.

The agreement was structured as an alternative to inserting a break clause into the deal, something United often do. The structure of the deal suited Wednesday given their financial uncertainty.

However, United are covering the costs of Amass' loan to facilitate game time, which raises the possibility of another Championship club making an offer to sign Amass and offering to cover the costs themselves.

That does not necessarily mean that an offer to cover the costs of Amass' loan would be favoured, due to sources stressing that game time is the priority when making such a decision.

Amass spoke to the Sheffield Star about the second half of the campaign, saying: “At the moment I haven't really thought too much about it even though it is coming.

"I just want to play in the games and a lot of stuff has happened higher. We're waiting for things to get straightened out and we'll sort it out closer to the time. But at the moment I'm just enjoying playing here.”

Amass continued: “I spoke to the gaffer a few times and I trusted him right from the start, he showed a lot of passion and care for me and that's one of the big reasons I came. It's a big club and I just wanted to come and play some football and really be a part of something. I wanted a challenge.

“There's a few people that I speak to such as old coaches, loan managers, Jonny being the main one. I speak to him a lot. I speak with these guys frequently and a lot of staff members that I've spent time with over the years. I'm keeping in close touch with everyone.”
