And on Monday, the team announced they would be cutting veteran safety Thornhill, who helped the Kansas City Chiefs to two Super Bowl titles during the 2019 and 2022 seasons.
Posting on X, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport wrote: "The #Steelers have released veteran S Juan Thornhill, per me and @MikeGarafolo, and he now heads to waivers for a fresh start. If he clears, he’ll be a free agent."

The recent addition of new safety, Kyle Dugger, from the New England Patriots, has seemingly pushed the 30-year-old down the Steelers depth chart.
Thornhill, began the 2025 season as a starter, but has been phased out over the course of the year. During the Steelers last two games, he only played snaps on special teams and did not feature on defense.
Any team that wants Thornhill can now put in a waiver claim for him, with the team with the worst record getting the safety if multiple teams are trying to claim him.

With the season now heading into the backend, Thornhill could be a cheap pickup for a team looking to bring in veteran secondary depth ahead of a playoff push.
A second-round pick by the Chiefs back in 2019, Thornhill spent the first four years of his career with the Chiefs, culminating in two Super Bowl titles.
