UPDATE: With five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Lane Johnson re-entered the game.
###
Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter of Monday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, leaving the offense in a bad position.
The Eagles announced that Johnson is questionable to return.
On the backside of a run play, Packers safety Evan Williams ran into Johnson’s leg, causing it to bend awkwardly. Johnson struggled putting pressure on his leg as he was assisted off the field. Then, he limped to the locker room and rode on a cart after getting inside.
Veteran backup Fred Johnson could finish out the game at right tackle.
If Lane Johnson does not return, Philadelphia’s offense could crumble against Green Bay’s defense in the second half. Johnson is arguably the best player on the team. He has shut down Packers star edge rusher Micah Parsons in previous matchups.
A five-time All-Pro, Johnson has not given up a sack this season. The 35-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down. He could dominate for a few more seasons before retiring.
The Eagles are down to three starters on the offensive line. Center Cam Jurgens has missed the last two weeks with a knee injury. Brett Toth has played well in Jurgens’ absence, but he is not as skilled.
A long-term absence from Johnson could hurt Philadelphia in the win-loss column. The team has a 12-23 record in the 35 games Johnson has missed in his career.
