Andy Robertson has revealed he is yet to begin contract negotiations with Liverpool, admitting the matter will increasingly dominate his thoughts in the months ahead. The left-back is able to discuss terms with foreign clubs from January 1 regarding a pre-contract arrangement and has not yet opened talks with Anfield officials about extending his stay.
The Scotland skipper attracted attention from Atletico Madrid last summer following the Reds' £40million acquisition of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth but ultimately stayed on at Liverpool to compete for his position. Robertson has now featured in the starting XI for the previous four matches under Arne Slot, including the 1-0 win against Real Madrid in the Champions League and Sunday's 3-0 loss at Manchester City, with recent weeks highlighting his continued value to the Anfield project.
Nevertheless, the experienced defender is poised to depart as a free agent when the season concludes as it stands, and while it's believed Robertson would welcome a new deal to continue his Merseyside tenure, serious discussions have not yet been held.
"I think last season everyone was bored of talking about the three lads (Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold), but for me the relationship between me and the club has been a wonderful one," Robertson said.
"They've done everything for me in terms of me and my family. I think I've not been too bad for them in terms of signing from Hull for £8million and what I've done.
"Whatever happens will happen behind closed doors and I'm relaxed about the whole situation. If it is my last year, then it's my last year. If it's not, then so be it.
"But I think obviously I had a bit of a stressful summer in terms of decisions and things like that. And I've said to myself to just try and enjoy the next few months and then obviously it will start probably taking over my life. I've got no doubt about that."
Robertson continued: "That's what happens when you go into your last six months. I'm just trying to focus on football now. I am delighted to be back on the pitch, delighted to be back playing the last few games.
"That's crucial and let's see what unfolds. But I'm relaxed about the whole thing and the club has been amazing for me."
