Andy Robertson has discussed whether he will sign a new Liverpool contract at the club amid it expiring in the summer.
The Scot’s eight-year stint at Liverpool could be approaching its conclusion, with no agreement yet in place.
The 31-year-old defender finds himself in a familiar position for Liverpool supporters, with his situation mirroring last season’s contract sagas involving Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Robertson, who arrived from Hull City for just £8 million in July 2017, has been a cornerstone of Liverpool’s resurgence this decade, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League, and numerous other honours across 354 appearances.
But the Liverpool legend has now revealed that he is relaxed about his contract issue:
“I think last season everyone was bored of talking about the three lads (Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold), but for me the relationship between me and the club has been a wonderful one,” Robertson said as quoted by the Mirror.
“They’ve done everything for me in terms of me and my family. I think I’ve not been too bad for them in terms of signing from Hull for £8million and what I’ve done.”
“Whatever happens will happen behind closed doors and I’m relaxed about the whole situation. If it is my last year, then it’s my last year. If it’s not, then so be it.”
Despite his decorated tenure on Merseyside, Robertson’s role at the club appeared uncertain following Liverpool’s £40 million summer signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
The 22-year-old Hungarian was viewed as the long-term successor to the aging Scot, and initially displaced Robertson from the starting lineup for the opening weeks of the 2025-26 campaign.
However, Robertson has forced his way back into contention in recent weeks, reclaiming his place in the starting XI for Liverpool’s last four fixtures across all competitions. His resurgence has prompted speculation that Liverpool may be reconsidering their stance on his contract situation:
“But I think obviously I had a bit of a stressful summer in terms of decisions and things like that,” the left-back continued.
“And I’ve said to myself to just try and enjoy the next few months and then obviously it will start probably taking over my life. I’ve got no doubt about that.”
“That’s what happens when you go into your last six months. I’m just trying to focus on football now. I am delighted to be back on the pitch, delighted to be back playing the last few games.
“That’s important and let’s see what happens. But I’m relaxed about the whole thing and the club has been amazing for me.”
