Eagles hold on to beat Packers in 'four-quarter fistfight'

Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Gaining an inch of ground was a brutal conquest in a premier NFC matchup, with the Philadelphia Eagles narrowly edging the Green Bay Packers on Monday in Green Bay, Wis.

The Eagles out-gained the Packers 294-261, forced two turnovers and held their foes to one score in the 10-7 triumph at Lambeau Field. They also sacked Packers quarterback Jordan Love three times in the first half.

"We know that's a physical team that we played and we know this is a physical league and division they play in," Eagles coach Nick Sirianni told reporters.

"We knew we had to be physical because we knew they were going to be physical."

Neither team scored in the first half. The Eagles opened the second with a 39-yard field goal from Jake Elliott. Quarterback Jalen Hurts hit wide receiver DeVonta Smith with a 36-yard touchdown pass about 4:25 into the fourth quarter for a 10-0 Eagles lead.

The Packers responded with an 11-play, 75-yard drive, which ended with a 6-yard touchdown run by running back Josh Jacobs. Packers kicker Brandon McManus went wide left on a 64-yard field goal attempt as time expired, preventing overtime.

"Unfortunately their are absolutely no moral victories in our sport, but I was proud of our guys' effort," Packers coach Matt LaFleur said. "I thought they battled for four quarters.

"We knew it was going to be a four-quarter fistfight. I thought our defense was outstanding, unfortunately too many mistakes offensively to overcome it."

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley totaled 101 yards from scrimmage on 25 touches. Smith logged 69 yards on four catches, including his touchdown snag. Packers quarterback Jordan Love completed 20 of 36 passes for 176 yards. Jacobs totaled 107 yards from scrimmage and a score on 26 touches.

"I know all of us as a unit would like to have some opportunities back, but when it mattered the most, we showed up and found ways to make plays and the ball went through the hoop," said Hurts, who completed 15 of 26 passes for 183 yards and one score.

"Regardless of whatever is going on, you've gotta keep shooting."

Eagles linebackers Nolan Smith Jr., Jalyx Hunt and Nakobe Dean registered a sack apiece. Dean and safety Rodrigo Blankenship also forced fumbles.

The Eagles (7-2) will host the Detroit Lions (6-3) on Sunday in Philadelphia. The Packers (5-3-1) will take on the New York Giants (2-8) on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.
