Eddie Howe’s message has not silenced transfer interest around improving Newcastle United player

Newcastle United striker William Osula may be injured right now, but he is still attracting admiring glances.

Eddie Howe’s attacking issues continue to cause problems for Newcastle United.

Howe admitted that he would ideally like to bench Nick Woltemade at times, given that he is still adjusting to Premier League life.

Yoane Wissa and William Osula are both out injured, though, meaning Woltemade is Newcastle’s only recognised striker at present.

Eintracht Frankfurt appear to be interested in William Osula again

Osula’s latest injury saw him miss out against Athletic Club, just days after replacing Woltemade at half-time against West Ham United.

The timing couldn’t have been worse, as Osula made a big impact against Fulham and looked to be building momentum.

The Dane will hopefully return to action after the international break, offering Howe another attacking option.

Osula’s long-term future is still in doubt, though, as Eintracht Frankfurt will not go away.

Eintracht sporting director Markus Krosche has been quoted by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg as saying that Osula is an ‘interesting’ player.

“They are certainly interesting players.”

Krosche was asked about both Osula and PSV Eindhoven’s Ayodele Thomas, and he seemingly likes both players.

Eintracht wanted Osula on transfer deadline day, but a move to Germany fell through.

Reports suggested that Eintracht will return for Osula in January, with Plettenberg adding that a deal is being worked on.

If that is the case, then Eddie Howe may have something to say about it.

Howe has spotted real improvement from Osula this season, even if only in minutes from the bench.

Howe wanted Osula to play more games, but admitted his relief that a deal didn’t go through.

Wissa’s injury means Osula has been called upon as Newcastle’s second-choice striker at times this season, so letting him go could have been catastrophic.

The Newcastle boss clearly thinks highly of Osula, and his comments suggest that a January move certainly isn’t in his thoughts.

Howe may have wanted to send a message to Eintracht, hammering home that Osula has a larger role at Newcastle than he had in the summer.

Eintracht are not giving up, though, and they seemingly still believe that a deal for Osula can be done.

Newcastle would surely need to find a replacement in January in order to let Osula go, with Howe potentially braced for more interest after Krosche’s comments.
