Now, after scoring six goals and registering two assists in his first eight games of the season for Strasbourg, Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman has selected Emegha for important World Cup qualifiers against Poland and Lithuania.
The Netherlands sit top of Group G ahead of their final two qualifiers, three points above Poland. Koeman has added Emegha to his squad due to former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst dealing with a knock.
A statement from the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) read: “Ronald Koeman has added Emmanuel Emegha to the squad in Zeist. The striker's call-up is due to Wout Weghorst's physical condition. The Ajax player is not fully fit, and the coming days will determine his availability for [the Poland game].”
Last season, former Dutch Under-21 international Emegha scored 14 goals and provided three assists in 27 Ligue 1 appearances for Liam Rosenior’s Strasbourg, where he is captain, earning a move to Chelsea.
