Ben Foster makes Eddie Howe prediction as Newcastle United endure ‘sticky patch’

Eddie Howe could soon be under ‘massive pressure’ at Newcastle United according to Ben Foster.

The Magpies head into the international break on the back of another infuriating defeat on the road. Newcastle United lost to Brentford on Sunday, making it a hat trick of away losses in the Premier League.

Their away form is ruining Newcastle United’s season, despite performing so well in the Champions League and the Carabao Cup.

While they are rubbing shoulders with Real Madrid and dreaming of another Wembley final, they are also just two points above the relegation zone. It is a concerning position for Eddie Howe, with Newcastle six points worse off than they were last season after 11 games.

But while Eddie Howe’s job at Newcastle is safe, Foster believes the pressure will be turned up a notch if a series of defeats come immediately after the international break.

Is Eddie Howe under pressure? Ben Foster says he could be soon

Foster has spoken about Newcastle United’s form on the latest episode of the Football Fill-in, admitting that the Magpies do not need to worry about being sucked into a relegation battle.

However, Foster does believe that Howe will be worrying about his situation if they go on a ‘losing streak’.

“If they went on a bit of a losing streak now, they’ve got Man City next,” he said.

“If they go on a little bit of a losing streak here, he will be under massive pressure.

“Lost three out of their last five. Two points above the relegation zone. You’ve got West Ham picking up points, Forest picking up points.

“Newcastle are not going to get dragged into a fight. They should be a top 10 or 12 team. They probably will find their feet again. But he [Howe] needs to get through this sticky patch.”

Newcastle United only need to sort out their away form

The position that Newcastle United currently find themselves in is not acceptable. To only have 12 points after 11 games is extremely disappointing, while recent performances away from home are largely concerning.

However, this is not a disaster of a season for the Magpies. They are doing extremely well in the Champions League and have a genuine chance of defending the Carabao Cup. The latter should not be sniffed at given Newcastle United’s trophy history.

Obviously, the Premier League form needs to improve. PIF want to compete in Europe regularly, and that is not going to happen next season based on current form.

But there is plenty of time for Howe to turn things around. And given his track record on Tyneside, the Newcastle United manager should be backed to do exactly that.

This idea that Howe has taken Newcastle United as far as he can is laughable. Fortunately, it is not an idea that PIF believe in.
