Andy Reid says Chiefs are “all in” on Broncos matchup

The biggest battle for this year’s AFC West may come in Colorado this Sunday when the Denver Broncos host the Kansas City Chiefs and just about everyone, including Andy Reid, knows that.

The legendary coach of the Chiefs spoke to the media on Monday in preparation for the game after the reigning AFC Champions spent the week on bye. He updated the public on several injuries, how the team’s self scout went, and, importantly for us in the Mile High City, the club’s approach to the week ahead of the Broncos bout.

The Broncos lead the AFC West at 8-2, trailed by the Chargers at 7-3, then the Chiefs at 5-4, who have won the division for nine straight years. Week 11’s meeting is just the first of two, but creating a distance of three and a half games in the standings, plus an early jump on the tiebreaker with just six games left, after including the meeting in Missouri.

“In this league, every game’s important,” Reid said. “So you’ve got to stay focused on that. It doesn’t matter what you project or what’s happened before. You learn from your past and take care of what’s going on today. We’ll get the players back tomorrow — and we’re all in on Denver. That’s kind of where we’re at.”

The Broncos are winners of seven in a row while Kansas City is coming off a tough loss to Buffalo on the road after a three-game win streak that hinted at the team getting hot.

“Is there an urgency? There should be an urgency every week. That’s how this league is,” Reid said. “There’s too much parity in this league not to have urgency every week.”

To back the coach’s words, despite the record disparity to this moment, the Broncos’ point differential of plus-62 is still worse than KC’s plus-76, the second-best mark in the AFC.
