Packers Star Throws Obvious Shade at Matt LaFleur

The Green Bay Packers put forth a miserable offensive performance in their Monday night loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, falling 10-7 and managing just 261 total yards on the evening.

The game essentially ended with the Packers failing to convert a fourth-and-1 with about a minute-and-a-half remaining, as running back Josh Jacobs was taken down for a loss in the backfield on a very questionable play call by Matt LaFleur.

After the contest, Jacobs made sure to specify that he was not a fan of the call, noting that the Eagles clearly knew what was going on before the ball was snapped.

“Fourth-and-1, they called out our play. We ran it like four times, they called it out,” Jacobs said, via Ryan Wood of USA Today.

Jacobs carried the ball 21 times for 74 yards and scored the Packers’ lone touchdown, averaging just 3.5 yards per carry. He then went on to explain what was going through his mind when he heard the Eagles blatantly identify the play.

“As a runner, it don’t ever feel good,” Jacobs said. “Whenever they know what we’re doing, it don’t ever feel good because it changed my mind on how I’m going to run the ball if we’re being honest. It makes me guess on what I’m going to do. Obviously, people are smart. If we’ve got code words or whatever, your hear it a few times, you’re going to eventually react to it. That’s football, but it’s never a good feeling.”

Jacobs’ comments are just the latest indictment on LaFleur, who has been routinely criticized throughout the 2025 campaign. Green Bay was expected by most to be a top-tier Super Bowl contender, but instead, the Packers are just 5-3-1 thus far and have suffered losses at the hands of the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers. Green Bay has also now lost two straight games on the road.

LaFleur took overs as Packers head coach back in 2019 and led the team to three straight NFC North division titles to begin his tenure in the tundra, posting 13 wins in all three of those seasons.

Since then, however, LaFleur has slipped, logging just one double-digit campaign and regularly coming up short in big games, as we saw on Monday night.

LaFleur is a very impressive 72-36-1 overall, but Packers fans are losing patience with his inability to get over the hump.
