Sunderland 2-2 Arsenal reaction: How far can this team go under Régis Le Bris?
Sunderland face Fulham in the Premier League later this month
Fulham are “weighing up” head coach Marco Silva’s future at the club ahead of his side’s Premier League clash against Sunderland later this month, according to reports.
The Black Cats travel to Craven Cottage after the international break, and will be looking to build on a hugely promising start to their long-awaited top flight return, during which they have lost just twice and climbed up to fourth in the table.
For their part, however, Fulham have started rather sluggishly, and find themselves just one point outside of the relegation zone after losing four of their last five league outings. Their most recent defeat came at the hands of Everton on Saturday, with the Toffees having three goals ruled out in a comfortable 2-0 victory.
Reflecting on his side’s performance on Merseyside, Silva said: “We got what we deserved from the game, definitely. We played 20 minutes in all the game, I think. We lost the game through the physicality, we could not handle at all the physicality of Everton side.
“You can see throughout the game, all the chances – even the disallowed goals – they created. They came from the second action after long throws, corners or wide free-kicks. When these type of things happen, it is not a bad tactical point of view, it’s a moment that you have to use certain type of tools that the Premier League demands of you, it’s as simple as that. Some teams play one way, others play another and you have to be able to handle it.”
What has been said about Marco Silva’s future at Fulham ahead of Sunderland clash?
And off the back of Fulham’s indifferent start to the season, and with tensions reportedly mounting behind the scenes over an inability to agree terms on a prospective contract extension, talkSPORT now claim that a decision could be made on Silva’s future sooner rather than later.
An excerpt from the national title’s report states: “As it stands the Portuguese will be a free agent when his current contract expires at the end of the season. Silva has never been shy to voice his frustration over the club’s lack of spending and admitted he “expected more” from their summer transfer window.
“It is thought the Fulham hierarchy are also concerned the Cottagers could be dragged into a relegation battle after Saturday’s limp 2-0 defeat at Everton left them a point above the bottom three.”

This fresh update comes just weeks after Fulham owner Shahid Khan insisted that Silva was part of his long-term thinking in West London, explaining in an interview with talkSPORT: "He’s been great. I really like him, not only as a person, [but] as a football manager, head coach. Definitely, I think he’s in our long-term plans."
Sunderland travel to face Fulham on Saturday, November 22nd. It will be the first time the two sides have met since February 2023, when the Cottagers knocked the Black Cats out of the FA Cup in a replay at the Stadium of Light.
