“Dear England…” – Liverpool’s Wirtz set to be PL’s biggest star, another Salah dig, Man United pundits slammed

Florian Wirtz’s critics at Liverpool ‘have no clue’ about him and he doesn’t need sympathy from anyone.

That’s according to BILD and journalist Axel Hesse, who go all in on the defence of the flailing Liverpool star today.

They say that while those who don’t know Wirtz might feel sorry for him at this point, it would be a pointless thing to feel. While he’s become something of a ‘doormat’ for many English football pundits, he doesn’t need any sympathy.

First of all, that’s because the criticism is largely coming from Manchester United’s former players like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville. As far as BILD are concerned, they all clearly have a pro-Manchester United agenda.

That’s one reason not to feel sorry for Wirtz. The second is that his ‘quality and mentality’ are ‘outstanding’. Apparently, ‘he’s not particularly bothered’ by comments, particularly when they’re coming from ex Manchester United players.

Hesse suggests that the comments are because of their dislike of Liverpool and the €140m they paid, or the Manchester United linked pundits ‘have no clue’ about the midfielder. It’s even stated the numbers contradict their opinions.

Florian Wirtz ‘soon to be biggest attraction in your league’

Florian Wirtz

FRANKFURT, GERMANY – 22 OCTOBER, 2025: Florian Wirtz – UEFA Champions League, match SG Eintracht Frankfurt vs Liverpool FC at Deutsche Bank Park.

The column points out that only Kylian Mbappé has created more chances in the Champions League. Wirtz was even ‘the best player on the pitch’ against Real Madrid. He also creates a ‘string of chances’ in the Premier League, covers the most ground, wins tackles and works hard.

On the chances point, they aim a dig at Mohamed Salah once again. The same journalist, Axel Hesse, wrote in October that if the Liverpool legend had scored a ‘mega-chance’ Wirtz created for him against Chelsea then things would look different.

Hesse feels Salah struggling and not taking chances is a key reason Wirtz isn’t shining like he was at Bayer Leverkusen. Liverpool are also a problem. They’re not functioning as a unit and that’s effecting Wirtz directly.

The insistence is that he’s not the Reds biggest problem by any means. In fact, he’s seen as a ‘leader and face of the future’.

Hesse and BILD end their promotional piece with a message. ‘Dear England experts, Florian Wirtz is not only our best player. But soon to be the biggest attraction in your league!’.
