The latest Leeds United news as a Burnley player has been charged by the Football Association and more fixture changes.
Burnley’s Hanninbal Mejbri has been charged by the FA after allegedly spitting at or in the direction of Leeds United supporters in the game at Turf Moor last month.
The FA spokesperson stated: “Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri has been charged with misconduct following their Premier League fixture against Leeds United on Saturday 18 October.
“It’s alleged that the player acted in breach of the Laws of the Game and/or in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or indecent behaviour by spitting at or in the direction of Leeds United supporters around the 67th minute. Hannibal Mejbri has until Friday 28 November to provide a response.”
The day after the game, which the Clarets won 2-0 courtesy of goals from Lesley Ogochukwu and Loum Chaouna either side of half-time, Lancashre Police released a statement saying, “Lancashire Police are aware of an alleged incident involving a Burnley player during the second half of the Premier League game between Burnley and Leeds United at Turf Moor yesterday (Saturday 18th October). We are currently working with Burnley Football Club to establish the facts.”
The FA came out shortly after to confirm they had been made aware of the allegations and Mejbri has now been charged.
Further Christmas fixture list chaos
After TV fixtures were released recently to inform fans when their games will be taking place around the busy winter period, Leeds fans will have to again rethink plans on the weekend before Christmas.
Leeds’ home game with Crystal Palace was moved from Saturday 20 December at 15:00 GMT to Sunday 21 December at 14:00 GMT as the game was moved for Sky TV and because of Crystal Palace’s European commitments.
However, due to both Arsenal and Palace making it to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals and their game being scheduled soon after the Leeds game on 23 December, the Premier League have granted both clubs’ request to have their league fixtures moved back to Saturday night at 20:00 GMT.
The Premier League issued this statement earlier today: “Player welfare is a priority for the Premier League, and we have therefore granted requests from Arsenal and Crystal Palace to move their respective fixtures. This comes after the scheduling of matches from other competitions around Premier League fixtures without adequate player recovery time. This is also further evidence of the impact the expanded UEFA competitions have on the domestic fixture calendar.
“The League would like to thank Leeds United and Everton for their co-operation in accommodating these changes. Both matches will remain live on Sky Sports.”
