Barcelona veteran provides major update on future – ‘The most important thing is…’

Robert Lewandowski was Barcelona’s hero in the team’s latest win over Celta Vigo away from home, and the player thus continued his special record against the Galician giants on the night.

The Polish striker scored three goals on the night, starting off with a penalty before tapping one goal in and then heading the ball into the back of the net from a complicated angle.

His hat-trick, needless to say, was the difference between the two sides at Balaidos. Given how it was just his first start after coming back from injury, the player showed exactly why he is valued so highly despite being 37 years of age.

Lewandowski’s interview

The Barcelona striker spoke to the media during the ongoing international break and commented on his future, fitness, and touched on some other topics.

He began by asking if he was awaiting a move from Barcelona’s end in terms of offering him a new deal, to which he said,

“In truth, the matter isn’t about the club’s move.”

“The most important thing is that I myself find an answer to the question: What do I want to do?” he added.

Elaborating on how he himself was not sure of what the next logical step in his life was, the Polish star said,

“And so far, I haven’t arrived at a clear answer for myself yet.”

“I’m not in a hurry; I feel an inner calm, and that’s the most important thing,” he added.

Lewandowski then stated that even if Barcelona arrived with an offer at the moment, he would not accept it immediately until he feels like playing on is the right decision.

“Even if we assume the club comes now, I won’t respond. Because it also depends on my sense of what is best and most appropriate for me.”

The veteran star was then quizzed on how he returned from injury ahead of schedule, given his age, and how it is almost impossible to heal so rapidly as one grows older.

“I’m a different person, this is in my blood,” he began, jovially.

“From the beginning, I was communicating with various specialists. The return date was set from the beginning: 2-3 weeks. And I prepared myself for that,” he added.

Lewandowski then revealed how the discomfort disappeared on its own in a matter of days and how it became clear to him that the injury was not as serious as initially expected.

“After two or three days, I felt that I wasn’t suffering from any problem in that muscle. That was strange, because usually with a tear or muscle strain, the first steps are tested: Can you take a step? Can you take another step?”

The Polish star then recalled how he quickly progressed through the various stages of his recovery and then returned to group training.

“As for me, after two or three days, I went into the gym, then to the field. I never thought at all that I was injured, but rather I performed the exercises at 100%.”

Finally, he revealed how he surprisingly felt ready to return to the field much earlier than expected and thus made his way back into Hansi Flick’s plans.

“And that was also a sign to me that the return to the field would be faster than initially expected.”
