Liverpool suffered another low point in a difficult campaign as they slumped to a 3-0 Premier League defeat against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Reds now sit eighth in the table, eight points adrift of leaders Arsenal in the defence of their title.
Arne Slot’s side will now have a fortnight off due to the international break before reconvening for their next top-flight clash, a home fixture against Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest on Saturday week.
On the transfer front, Luca Stephenson has revealed he would rule out a return to Liverpool in January despite the club’s ongoing concerns at right-back.
The midfielder is currently in his second consecutive season-long loan spell at Dundee United, where he has once again been a mainstay for the Scottish Premiership side.
The 22-year-old has been operating at right wing-back for the Tangerines and was on the scoresheet during their 1-1 draw with league leaders Hearts on Sunday.
Although Stephenson spent much of his time in Liverpool’s academy as a midfielder, he impressed at right-back during pre-season under Slot before signing a new contract and heading back to Scotland on loan.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has rotated his right-back options this season, with Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong spending spells on the sidelines through injury.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Calvin Ramsay – making his first Reds appearance in three years against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup – have also filled in.
When asked about the possibility of being recalled by his parent club in January, Stephenson made his stance clear – he prefers to see out the season with Dundee United.
“I want to stick around for the full season here,” he said, speaking to The Courier.
“It doesn’t matter how well I’m doing or how well I did last season, when I join a club, I commit to a full season.
“I almost try and forget about being a Liverpool player a little bit.
“I’m a Dundee United player and that’s my only concern.”
