Liverpool are in something of a crisis at the moment.
Although they’ve won two out of their last three games across all competitions, Liverpool’s performance against Manchester City on Sunday was shameful.
They may have been robbed of a goal after Virgil van Dijk’s header was disallowed, but even if this had counted, it’s not guaranteed to have made that much of a difference.

And, although the Reds put in a more-than-solid performance against Real Madrid on Tuesday, the fact that they can’t consistently produce these results is concerning.
So, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise to see several new players already being linked with an Anfield switch.

Although numerous players have already been rumoured to be of interest to Liverpool, Nico Schlotterbeck is the one who stands out the most, especially after a new update which has just emerged from Germany.
Nico Schlotterbeck is becoming unhappy at Dortmund, with Liverpool now interested in signing him
Earlier in the season, rumours of Schlotterbeck transferring to Liverpool emerged.
Several other clubs were also linked with an interest in the centre-back, but at the moment, nothing has come to fruition.

But, as per a fresh report from BILD, it seems like Schlotterbeck is becoming unhappy at Dortmund and is unlikely to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga outfit.
This is good news for Liverpool as it means that he’s clearly open to a move, and since he’s unlikely to sign a new deal, he may even be available for a somewhat reasonable fee, especially since his current deal expires in 2027.
Nico Schlotterbeck would be a perfect signing for Liverpool
The summer of 2026 is setting up to be one full of change for most football clubs across the world.
Several players from top clubs, such as Dayot Upamecano, Marc Guehi, and Ibrahima Konate, all have their contracts expiring in the summer.
At the moment, none of them have signed new deals as they each have several options on the table they’d like to pursue.
And, although Liverpool have been linked with Guehi and Upamecano, they’d likely prefer to wait and sign Schlotterbeck.
The German can play as a centre-back or at left-back, which would give Slot some more options to use among his ranks.

He’s also widely regarded as one of the best ball-playing centre-backs in the world, with most top clubs vying for his transfer.
And, since he’s now becoming increasingly unhappy at Dortmund, the door could be open for Liverpool to swoop in and prise him away from Signal Iduna Park in the near future.
