Bump 'can't wait to see more' of new Seahawks WR Shaheed

The Seattle Seahawks got a small taste of what life is like with speedy wide receiver Rashid Shaheed on the roster during Sunday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Seattle Seahawks optimistic Jarran Reed can make late-season return

After being acquired in a trade with the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, Shaheed played limited snaps in his first game with the Seahawks, but that didn’t stop the team from showing a small sample of the myriad of ways it can use the Weber State product’s unique skill set.

Seattle got the ball in Shaheed’s hands three times in the 21 offensive snaps he played. He caught a screen pass that went for a short gain, took a reverse for a 10-yard carry and lined up at running back for another 10-yard rush. Additionally, the 2023 first-team All-Pro return man served as the team’s primary kick and punt returner.

Seahawks Radio Network analyst and former NFL wide receiver Michael Bumpus shared his thoughts on Shaheed’s debut during his Four Down Territory segment on Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy.

“I loved it. You saw him get a reverse. He got a screen. They used him at running back and he got a toss. He was on punt return, kick return. He’s gonna do absolutely everything, and I love that,” Bumpus said. “And this is just a sprinkle (of how he can be used).”

Shaheed’s overall line from Sunday isn’t one that will grab attention. He had 23 yards on three offensive touches, three kickoff returns for 67 yards and fair caught every punt he fielded. He also had a fumble on a kickoff return that the Seahawks were able to recover.

But the eye test gave plenty of reason to be excited about what Shaheed can do as he continues to acclimate himself to a new team and his role expands, Bumpus said.

“You see it, you see the potential,” Bumpus said. “Even though he didn’t have like that huge run, you felt like, oh snap, he’s one block away from taking this thing to the (end zone). I loved it and I can’t wait to see more.”
