Aston Villa have made a decent start to the season overall under the guidance of Unai Emery

Aston Villa are back in action after the international break with an away trip to Elland Road to play Leeds United on Sunday 23rd November. They will be looking to keep their momentum going after their 4-0 win over AFC Bournemouth last time out. Emi Buendia, Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley and Donyell Malen got their goals against the Cherries.

Unai Emery has been in charge at Villa Park since joining back in 2022. Prior to his move, he had previously had spells with the likes of PSG, Arsenal and Villarreal and he has since done an impressive job in the Midlands. Based on WhoScored ratings, we have looked at the three best and three worst performing Aston Villa players (those who have played over 300 minutes in total) so far this season...

Three best performing Aston Villa players so far this season

Amadou Onana, WhoScored rating: 6.95 - Aston Villa signed the midfielder from fellow top flight side Everton in 2023. He was brought in to bolster their options in the middle of the park. The Belgium international, who has 24 caps to his name, has caught the eye so far in this campaign.

Boubacar Kamara, WhoScored rating: 6.91 - Kamara, 25, has performed well this term and has enjoyed plenty of game time for Emery’s side. He arrived back in 2022 and has since made 111 appearances altogether, finding the net on two occasions. Prior to his move, the Frenchman spent his whole early career at Marseille.

Emi Buendia, WhoScored rating: 6.83 -The playmaker has enjoyed a new lease of life at Aston Villa recently. He fell out of favour earlier this year and was loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. The ex-Norwich City man has since forced his way back into Emery’s plans and is becoming an important player.

Three worst performing Aston Villa players so far this season

Evann Guessand, WhoScored rating: 6.33 - Aston Villa snapped him up in the summer from OCG Nice on a long-term contract. However, he hasn’t been able to make the impact that he would have wanted to. He has scored just one goal in 15 matches and he will be eager to find his shooting boots over the next couple of months.

Donyell Malen, WhoScored rating: 6.37 - It is a surprise to see his rating so low. It is no secret that Malen had a tough opening few months following his switch to England last winter. He seems to have started to find his feet of late though and is starting to chip in with some vital goals.

Ollie Watkins, WhoScored rating: 6.46 - He has been left out of England’s most recent squad for their international matches coming up against Serbia and Albania. The experienced striker has been Aston Villa’s main man up top since his move from Brentford but he has found it hard to find the net this season. He has scored only goal and needs to try and build his confidence back up again.
