Everton defender Michael Keane has been named in BBC Sport’s Team of the Week following Saturday’s victory.
The Toffees overcame Marco Silva’s Fulham in a comfortable albeit controversial afternoon at Hill Dickinson.
Keane was instrumental in the win, scoring Everton’s second goal and contributing to a clean sheet.
Indeed, in selecting his XI for the week, pundit Troy Deeney insists Keane has ‘arguably’ been Everton’s best player this season.
He said: “Considering they let him go at the end of last year and he was exploring his options, he has arguably been their best performer this season.
“Another goal, another clean sheet at home to Fulham. I think he is really starting to express himself in a way that people were not expecting.”
KEANE HAS BEEN SOLID FOR MOYES THIS SEASON IN BOTH ATTACK AND DEFENCE
Keane has excelled under Moyes this season, and the quality and consistency of his displays may have surprised people.
His goal on Saturday was his second of the season, with his movement in the box a constant threat from set pieces.
Meanwhile, he’s shown composure and leadership at the back, and has occasionally had to tidy up for James Tarkowski.
His goal to double Everton’s lead on Saturday essentially secured the points in the big win for Moyes.
It was a frustrating first half, with Thierno Barry and Tarkowski both seeing goals ruled out for offside.
Idrissa Gueye’s strike ensured Everton led at the interval, though the visitors will have been relieved it was only by one goal.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall then fell victim to the lineman’s flag, seeing his fine strike chalked off.
It felt like one of those afternoons when the visitors would score a contentious equaliser to steal an undeserved point.
However, Keane’s header sealed the points, and ended a three-game winless run for David Moyes.
Always nice to go into the international break on the back of three points.
