Los Angeles Chargers fans were ecstatic when the team hired Jim Harbaugh to be its head coach. However, as promising as that was, the assistant he brought with him to coordinate the defense may have been just as important to their success.

Jesse Minter had made a name for himself at Michigan. Now, two years into the NFL, he is showing the league what his unit is capable of.

Stats show how the Chargers’ defense is contributing to their recent hot streak.

According to Pro Football Focus, in three consecutive wins, it has 12 sacks and four takeaways, and has held the opposition to six of 32 third-down conversions.

Quarterback Justin Herbert is finally getting the help he needs on that side of the ball. Minter has fixed the defense that regressed under former head coach Brandon Staley.

The Chargers are blitzing with a purpose, being aggressive, and overpowering foes at the line of scrimmage. They’re also forcing turnovers and giving their offense a short field.

The Chargers’ defense had Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers struggling from start to finish in Week 10. They also shut down the run, showing no visible weaknesses and keeping the veteran out of rhythm.

Minter has already done more than enough to draw some buzz as a potential head coaching candidate. Chargers fans need to be thankful and enjoy this while it lasts, as it shouldn’t be long before he also gets a team of his own.
