Liverpool eyeing move for PSG midfielder

Struggling Premier League champions Liverpool sit eighth in the top flight table going into the international break, after a 3-0 defeat against Manchester City on Sunday.

Arne Slot’s side cruised to the title in his first season in charge last term, but the Reds have struggled in recent weeks and have now lost four of their last five league games.

This is despite the Reds spending more than £450 million during the recent summer transfer window, breaking the British transfer record to sign striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

Despite their poor season so far, it has now emerged that Liverpool’s spending may not have stopped yet.

As per CaughtOffside, the Merseyside outfit have identified Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha as a possible target for the January transfer window.

The Reds are said to be keen to bolster Slot’s options in midfield during the upcoming mid-season window, and Vitinha has emerged on their radar.

Vitinha, 25, joined PSG from Portuguese side Porto back in 2022 and has since made more than 160 appearances for the club across all competitions.

He has been particularly impressive over the past 18 months, helping Luis Enrique’s side to win the Champions League, Ligue 1 and French Cup last term.

The Portugal international is under contract at PSG until the end of the 2028/29 season, however, and the report claims that the French champions regard him as ‘untouchable’ and have no intention of allowing the player to depart Paris.

Liverpool’s scouting department are said to perceive the midfielder as one of the most technically gifted players in Europe, and he appears to be near the top of the Reds’ list of transfer targets in the run-up to the January window.
